Current information for participants of the Pre Course
Log in to the virtual Pre Course
- Version date: September 21, 2020
Which devices?
The virtual platform for the Pre Course 2020 is built for interactive participation via a desktop or a laptop. A hybrid version of the platform (therefore also suitable for a tablet or smartphone) was unfortunately not feasible from a cost perspective. Although access can be achieved with a mobile device, the platform recognizes this over time and will make important functions inaccessible.
Of course, a good internet connection is necessary to attend the conference. As a benchmark, we say that if you can watch Netflix and YouTube videos at good quality without any problems, this will be sufficient. But if this causes problems, we advise you to attend the conference at a different location with a better connection.
VPN and office connection
Hospitals and companies are increasingly using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), such as Citrix, so that you can connect to the internet in an encrypted and secure manner. These protections do not allow the use of many websites and / or services (such as Zoom), simply because institutions and employers do not take any risks when it comes to the security of their automation systems. The platform of the Nephrology Days 2020 is extremely safe and reliable, but VPN protections (different for each employer) often make it impossible to reach the platform. Don't take any chances and avoid a VPN connection and use your own internet connection.
Update your operating system
Internet Explorer is no longer supported by Microsoft. Using the Internet Explorer browser can lead to delays, bugs or even outages.
Microsoft Edge (almost the same icon) is the successor of Internet Explorer, but this browser is still quite new and it is possible that all kinds of adjustments are made from Edge, which means that the platform of the Nephrology Days may suddenly stop working. We therefore strongly advise against the use of these two browsers!
The platform works best under the latest version of Chrome (this is preferred) or FireFox. Make sure your desktop or laptop has the most current browser version and that you give this browser permission to use the audio / camera input.
If you usually use other browsers that may be using your camera / audio, make sure these browsers are closed.

You will receive an email from us with your personal login details. This information is only for you. Use by someone else means that you cannot attend the conference yourself and cannot receive accreditation points.
If you are going to actively participate in a session it is important that your camera and microphone work within the platform, you can check this in the following way:
Change camera and microphone access
- Open your Chrome browser
- Click at the top right on the 3 dots, then Settings.
- Under 'Privacy and security', click Site settings.
- Click on Camera or Microphone.
- Enable or disable Ask before access.
- Check your blocked and allowed sites.
- Remove existing exceptions or permissions: Click Remove to the right of the site.
- Allow a site you've already blocked: Under 'Blocked', select the site name and change the permissions for the camera or microphone to 'Allow'.
When you are logged in
Those who have never attended a virtual conference may have no idea how such a thing works. But it is actually very simple and everything is self-explanatory. Once you have logged in, you will enter the virtual lobby from which you can access the lectures by clicking the "tiles" in the menu,
|
consult your personal program, visit the virtual fair, contact the sponsors, etc. You can easily return to the "lobby" at any time, regardless of where you are at that moment within the platform.
|
Visiting the sessions
In any case, make sure you log in on time. The program starts exactly on time and the times stated in the program schedule are adhered to exactly. This also applies to the short breaks. So there is also time for coffee and toilet visits.
|
Just like at a physical conference, we register your presence. Of course we register log-in and log-out times, but you will also regularly receive a control question on your screen during the congress. By clicking on this you confirm that you are still present and that you are entitled to your points.
|
Asking questions to speakers and participating in discussions
The program consists of 3 sessions, all 3 consisting of a lecture by a speaker and the possibility to ask questions and/or participate in a discussion after each session.
|
In principle, questions are asked in writing with the Q and A button during the session and the session chair directs the flow of questions. During discussions you can raise your virtual hand, etc. You will find more information on the platform itself.
|
The virtual exhibition visit
In the platform menu you will find a choice to visit the exhibition. You will be received on a central page, where you will find an overview of our sponsors. The platinum sponsors can be found at the top, followed by the gold sponsors, the silver and finally the bronze. Shortly before the start of the conference, you may receive bundled invitations from sponsors who would like to speak to you.
|
Important: we do not provide email addresses or other information to the sponsors. Only your presence is known. The sponsors send their invitation to us and we forward it to you. It is up to you whether you want to accept an invitation. The most active fair visitor will receive a beautiful souvenir from us.
